Felix Cat Insurance researched and analyzed thousands of cat insurance policies and cat insurance veterinary visit claims as well as speaking to vets, vet technicians, insurance experts and cat owners to build an insurance company just for cats. Felix is now, proudly, the only insurance company aimed exclusively at felines.
The company offers what it calls ‘whisker-to-tail’ protection, meaning it covers accidents and illness as well as cancer, emergency care, alternative therapies and much more. Policyholders can also add extra coverage to the base policy, such as exam fees.
Customers can also fully customize their protection, and add extra types of coverage such as Breeding Coverage.

Does Felix Cat Insurance cover curable pre-existing conditions?
Yes, Felix does cover cats with pre-existing conditions and illnesses, and is one of only a few pet insurance companies to do so as standard.
Pre-existing conditions are illnesses or injuries that occurred or existed before the policy start date and during specific waiting periods.
The coverage for pre-existing conditions begins following a 365-day waiting period, so one full year after taking out the policy. After that point, claims for treatment that are related to that pre-existing condition can be made.

What about hereditary and genetic breed-specific conditions?
If a cat is suffering from a congenital condition, they have an illness or disease that was present at or before birth. Inherited or hereditary conditions refer to the presence of an illness based on genetic factors.
Some examples of hereditary conditions are heart disease, type ll diabetes, feline lower urinary tract disease (FLUD) and arthritis. Felix uses veterinarian research and studies on genetics to determine whether those conditions are considered hereditary or congenital. Both types are covered in Felix’s plans as an add-on.
Do Felix Cat Insurance plans include alternative therapies?
Yes, Felix Cat Insurance policies cover alternative, holistic and behavioral therapies, which is a new and constantly evolving area of veterinary medicine. These can be treatments that don’t usually fall within the realm of conventional veterinary medicine as defined by the American Association of Rehabilitation Veterinarians (AARV).
Treatments covered by Felix Cat Insurance include chiropractic treatment, acupuncture, herbal supplements and vitamins that are performed by a veterinarian or a member of staff under the direct supervision of a vet.
This coverage is included on all plans as standard.
24/7 pet telehealth
Felix Cat Insurance provides policy holders with 24/7 support, 365 days a year.
All policyholders have access to Felix’s customer portal, which provides vet support and advice any time it’s needed. It is accessed via the company’s online portal or helpline, giving customers peace of mind and access to expert advice any time of the day or night.
Do Felix Cat Insurance plans cover vet exam fees?
Veterinary exam fees are covered by Felix Cat Insurance policies as an extra to the basic policy.
This includes exam and office visit fees for your cat when they visit their veterinarian, a speciality clinic, emergency rooms, veterinarian universities and telemedicine, either when ill or as an emergency.
The exam fee coverage does not include wellness visits — that can be added as an optional add-on on top of the basic insurance.
Felix Cat Insurance coverage levels
Felix Cat Insurance offers a range of premiums that vary depending on factors including the breed and age of the cat being insured, and the ZIP code where policyholders reside.
The amount of annual coverage begins at $1,000, rising to a maximum of $10,000. The annual deductible varies from $100 to $500 and the reimbursement ranges from 70-90%.
The amount of deductible, reimbursement percentage, coverage limits and specific features included within each policy can all be customized. This is alongside flexible accident and illness selections that can also be customized depending on the customer’s budget.
The deductible is the amount policyholders pay toward the healthcare of their cat per policy year. The reimbursement percentage is the amount that will be reimbursed to the policyholder for the cost of care once the deductible has been paid, in the same way that human medical insurance works.
The deductible is applied to the veterinary bill first, then the reimbursement percentage is applied afterwards rather than the other way around.
Felix Cat Insurance waiting periods
Under Felix Cat Insurance policies, there is a two-day waiting period for accidents, and a 14-day waiting period for illnesses. It has a 30-day waiting period for alternative therapies, and 180-day waiting period for IVDD (intervertebral disc disease). The longest waiting period is 365 days, applicable to pre-existing conditions.
All waiting periods begin on the effective date of the coverage period. They only apply during the first year of the policy and don’t apply to annual renewals unless there’s a gap in coverage.
What does Felix Cat Insurance not cover?
There are certain things Felix Cat Insurance does not cover. These include elective procedures, experimental treatments, grooming procedures including nail clipping, and treatment for parasites.
Treatment for obesity is not covered, and most dental procedures are not covered, unless it’s related to an accident. Also, any injuries or illnesses relating to breeding are not covered unless the policy holder has taken out extra Breeding coverage.
